No body knows who the enemy is. Some years ago, I was approached by a very charming tour guide, who persuaded me to go on one of his trips. He was very friendly with everybody. A few days later, he went very 'dark' and nasty, and s attacked me in my hotel room. I didn't tell anybody, because I knew no body would believe me.

My teens and i are day hikers. We had a dog encounter where the dog was lunging, teeth bared, at my kids. I put myself between the dog and my kids and held my ground and yelled no. The owner was actually nearby and was upset at me, saying it just wanted to play. Nope, not with that body language. I know online it says not to be aggressive, but i acted on instinct. Dog owners are who i have the big issue with. Ive had encounters just around town and businesses. They always seem to think its cute or get mad at my startle. Really pisses me off.

Genetic geneology is when they get your complete profile and then compare that profile to profiles stored on databases which use them to give their clients information of where their ancestors are from, what nationality they came from and can also identify possible future medical issues they might incounter. The companies will, at times, allow state law enforcement agencies and the US DOJ, FBI etc, to match a persons genetic profile to profiles that they have on record in order to identify family of missing Jane or John Does. They also are able to use this data to find the identity of anyone who left their DNA on a victim and has also sent their DNA into one of those geneology sites. Oh, and if one of their family members has given their DNA as law enforcement will interview people and ask questions about their family members.

about derek... as someone who has tried to run away from home and even succeeded to do so one day, his behavior and especially his willingness to spend that much money on equipment looks a lot like him trying to make his camping trip look as "normal" as possible so as to not raise any suspicions by his family and friends. I know this because I'd do the same thing, I would make it seem like everything was completely "normal" before I would run away from home. the one time i succeeded in running away i had intentions to harm myself, that is why i made no effort to reach back out to people who were trying to contact me. derek did the same thing, undoubtedly because he had intentions similar to mine. when you are going through a severe mental health crisis like that, you start to convince yourself that life is not worth living anymore, and soon enough you make plans to run away from it all. you don't want people bothering you with their concerns and worries, because you don't want anyone to get in the way of your plans, so you make it seem like everything is perfectly normal before you execute your plan. derek's case is an example of what happens when these plans succeed. cases like these serve as a reminder to never give up on your life no matter how hard it gets, because in the end people care about you more than you could ever imagine.

Inspiration leads people to do things they ordinarily wouldn’t do. I was inspired by the movie , not go to Alaska, just to contemplate that flavor of freedom. It didn’t take hold enough to go into the wilderness in any state. Tragic stories abound with those unprepared and prepared , where tragic outcomes don’t always happen not anymore than any other walk of life. Death awaits us around every corner. Leave it to God to bring one to the brink. I for most of my life that desired to walk across the country, and as circumstances started to open up, I even met someone who appreciated my enthusiasm, and even possibly would join me on my lifetime trek. At about the time it became apparent that the opening of freedom came up, so did the plandemic. I hesitated within , occasionally watching yt vids on about critters nation wide were more than the usual bears lions amoung other deadly creatures waiting to meet up with w. Either meet up or meat up… continue to pay attention to the other unknown and known creatures without classification and even proof. So now here I am still waiting for God to set me in the best position to fulfill His plan. If it means walk or don’t walk, is the same thing. Anyone have a legit desire to walk a 3000 mile hike?

Just a thought all the technology nowadays ud think there could b available a device like a necklace or bracelet that could find u if ur in trouble or lost that wouldn't have a battery or need to have service or whatever like they have GPS devices but sometimes they don't have certain coverages or need to b charge.. I dunno for not just park rangers but for all hikers like a mandated thing that could not fall off of u maybe just wishfilull thinking but it would save lives and not cost so much resources of rescue and save there lives from trying to save others😢

They simply don't have enough people + resources to give every case the attention it deserves. Remember, private citizens used to be the fire dept, the police, etc. everything.

I planned a 10 mile walk a couple summers ago even though it was 102 F outside and figured I'd be fine because I had a full Camelbak with ice cold water and I also had a bottle of ice water holstered. By the time I got to 4 mile marker I started thinking this was a bad idea because I'd already drank my water bottle and over half my Camelbak was consumed as well. Thank God there was a shortcut back to my house to make it only a 7 mile walk because that's the way I had to go. All the ice had long since melted, probably by the 1 mile mark. I was never in any real danger, though, but my only point is that even that just 102F degree heat was nasty, so I can't imagine how bad Death Valley is. You would not make it far, even if you had a few gallons of water. Deserts are no joke.

Everyone keeps saying he died of dehydration or heat stroke, but no where in the video does it say the cause of death. He may have, but he may have died because it was his time. I had an uncle in his 80s working his cattle when he died. He died of heart attack. He died while doing something he loved. In my opinion, that is a better way to go than laying in a bed staring at the ceilings. May he rest in peace. It sounds like he lived life on his own terms and good for him.

I have done the Hidden Lake Trail Cabin multiple times, but didn't make it to the actual cabin until my 3rd attempt! One time at the top I thought I stumbled upon a murder scene, but apparently it was just some high altitude algae which turns blood red. (I was a rookie at the time) Anyway, if you haven't been, the part above the treeline can be extremely confusing in a snow storm, because u have to just follow cairns for where the trail turns. Also if there is no visibility to see the cabin, it is not a route that u would expect as it makes some erratic turns. You can only reach it usually June - Oct, as the snow is too much early in the season (a lot of fallen trees before u even make it to the trailhead too) I have started in July where its 70 + sunny at the start + a horrible blizzard at the top. Got frostbite sleeping on the snow once. Definitely bring a tent as sometimes the cabin is too full with people (it's only comfy for about 4 max) 6-8 if u know each other really really well. Crampons are recommended too if there's a lot of snow. The final part is a scramble over giant boulders and the cabin sits atop a sheer cliff on two sides. Still, a 1935 cabin with sick views and a classic Kerouac feel. I hope it doesn't get too popular as it is one my most cherished places in WA. I recommend camping the night before a mile in from the trailhead and then hitting it the next day as it is 4.5 miles and about 1000ft gain per mile. Good luck. Rock on.

(5:38) Thomas was one of the rescuers that helped the injured person. Just a little correction. I happen to know the three people that were on that trip where one member got hurt. I also lived at a wilderness camp with him and two others the year before he went to Alaska. I got to see some of his personal traits firsthand. With all his skill, he occasionally made a few mistakes.

The worst night of sleep I had this year was camping in the sierras near lake tahoe in late April. I slept on a switchback thermal mat, in a fleece liner, in a below-freezing-rated sleeping bag, inside of a tent. When I got in it was the mid 50's (Fahrenheit) and I was WAY too warm. Sweat enough to soak the fleece. Then I woke up a couple of hours later with the fleece still wet, but now I had fallen asleep with my bag half open and now I was far too cold. It's tricky.

I don't know what about the term "death zone" leaves people confused at the level of danger. You're physically dying the entire time you are there.
